Take a look or let me know what you think:D

Your link goes to nowhere.

However, being a 1990 it'll have the 3.5L engine. Do a cursory search around the forum for things to be wary of. They have a bit of a "reputation".

Looks fair for the price. Pain and bumper are rough, antenna is broken. No engine pix. Test drive the car, if lots of oil smoke then the engine is probably trashed with a bent rod. No smoke does not mean it doesn't have a bent rod, just means the cylinder is not yet oval to the point that it burns oil.

If you can determine if the engine has ever been replace with a factory crate engine (no engine serial # in the right spot), or if the head has been replaced (casting #22 would be an excellent sign) then that is a terrific price.

Where should I look to see if it's a #22 instead of #14?
Thanks

On the head above the #2 injector, look for the casting number, in the format 603-016-xx-01. The "xx" is the version. #20 were I think the last installed, and #22 is the last replacement head made. That car would originally have had a #17 or later I think, NOT a #14.

Front and rear seats don't look correct for that car. They appear to be for a 1988 and older W126.

Looks like its a 1986 or 1987 300SDL. They probably just made a mistake on the year.

Father Of Giants 08-03-2017 07:24 AM

Yeah it's a 300SDL.

If you're serious about this thing, I can give a large rundown on what to look and listen for when getting one of these. That way you can chop the price.

Diseasel300 08-03-2017 10:37 AM

Thanks for the working link. It does look like an '86 or '87 300SDL. Test drive before you even consider buying. It should start quickly and easily. I'd be trying to work the seller down on the price, significantly. Expect to be performing some "deferred maintenance".

Being a 300SDL, it is very possible that it still has the #14 head. Don't let it scare you off - if it isn't overheating or pressurizing the cooling system, the head is probably still ok. My '86 has 177K on the clock (which is really more like 200k+) and the original #14 head is still crack and warp free.

OM603 Engine serial number / plate location:

#14 head isn't to be scared of. Don't let it stop you. They go bad when they got hit and overheat. It's simple as don't overheat it!

Well guys I want to Thank You All for your help, I knew if I came here and asked I could count on ya.
The car was "SOLD" last night to a fella about 2 hrs from here in Des Moines.
And the car was a 1986 as some pointed out was told it had original engine.

So again thanks for offering your knowledge and encouragement . I'll keep looking.
