Converted Diesel...Need Advice
I am in the process of looking for a wagon with a third seat for a friend of mine.
I want to find a 1981-1985 300TDT. Here is something very interesting I found: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1832339567 1984 300TDT converted 30000 miles ago to a TE. Please advise regarding: 1. Reliability 2. Gas Mileage 3. Your honest thoughts on this vehicle in particular. My mouse-finger was just itching to "buy it now" for $4,500, but I needed to consult with the Jedi Council for advice first! Thanks in advance! -Brian |
It looks like it was an engine swap.
Were there any gas wagons of this W123 variety in the US? Might have been a grey market donor car. Personally, I think I'd pass as I not that much of my own mechanic. -m |
It sure is pretty. You could always convert it back to a diesel.... :)

I don't know man....I've seen VERY FEW conversions of any kind that were done right. I wouldn't trust it unless I knew who did the conversion, and that they didn't do a hack-job. This one looks nice and shiny, but that doesn't mean everything works right, or will last.
Why would anyone do such a conversion anyway? The diesel would have outlasted the gas engine by a LONG shot! Oh, well... He's asking too much for it, regardless. Mike |
Thanks guys!
That's why I asked you first b4 pursuing it. Your advice is more than enough for me! I will steer cleer...:D |
