190D22, I do not think that the power of the compressor is a factor in cooling. However, because of the higher overall working pressures some have suggested that some types of compressors last longer when using the 134a. Many think the York upright a stonger unit overall than the rotaries...
I think the consensus is that the approx 20% difference in cooling ability inherent in the molecular structure can be compensated for by increasing the capacity of the condenser , using a paralel flow condenser, and taking care of housecleaning with respect to dirty or bent fins on both the condenser and the radiator...and using the 9 blade later model replacement fan. If your lucky enough to have a model which will accept the new VOV expansion valve I would suggest that also.. it seems to help at the point which the 134 is lacking the most..at idle and low speeds.....Greg |

Thank you. I am going to look into this Freeze 12 stuff. It seems to have a really good reputation in these cars. I have some cans of R12 left, but it's expensive. Where is this stuff available? How much does it cost? Can you just top off your R12 with it? Thanks.

To MarkM:
I read your response and would like to investigate wiring my aux fans so they come on when the compressor is running. This morning I did some voltage checking, and can't seem to locate which wire on the compressor is the one to wire into. I have three wires red, white, green. Is your compressor wired the same, and did you wire into one of these wires, or did you wire elsewhere? Any info on the relay would be appreciated also. thanks, 92 300E |
