Things you dont have to worry about when owning a diesel during a Hurricane.

Today is saturday and right now in Houston we are getting hit hard with tons of rainfall from Harvey .If you live in an area that doesnt experience all the dramas that come with a major Hurricane, I would say fuel is generally at the top of that list .Alot of it is driven by wanting to be prepared ,batteries ,ck ,water ,ck , groceries ,ck .The lines for gas the day before its landfall was excedingly long ,THE DAY OF LF the diesel pumps still had open recievers ,it turns out that diesel is the last fuel to be soldout and every station that I witnessed was open for businesss as long as it was diesel you were looking to purchase.Im not sure that its designed that way for larger Emerg. service type vehicles that require the fuel may need it at the ready .It maybe a secret but Ill share to my local group of diesel nuts, these really are going to be the last cars on the road driving around ,for several reasons.

Stay safe, hoping the rain can be handled by the channels there but still 40 inches or so to go. .

When Sandy blew the east coast off the grid, my 190D stayed on the road with the help of the heating oil tank.

News right now looks like a biblical event unfolding. Every water shed is critical ,what happens now is lakes start to release their capacity which could add another 3 feet here to this area , brought to you by the san jacinto river authority .Looking alot like 1994 ,but worse.

You need to watch out for water in the underground tanks though. Years ago after a major flood in Iowa City my brother told me that they filled the fire trucks without thinking. All the water alarms began sounding and they had to shut them down and drain off the water before the trucks could go back to work.

You are better off than many guys with big pickups because W123 owners are smart enough to not try to drive thru water on the roadway, especially if they can barely swim like the genius in the white pickup on the news. When I lived in Houston, even a normal 4" thunderstorm caused flooding, so most residents know where flood-prone areas are. It was most desirable to live beside a bayou (concrete-lined ditch) because then the water had somewhere to go besides your yard. They built the city in a swamp and it has been sinking for decades as they draw oil out of the ground.
