Opening a W210 trunk with a stuck latch?
This a question related to another thread...
If a W210 trunk were stuck closed due to the friction of the latch against the striker plate, how would one open the trunk? I don't see any other way to access the trunk.

My SDL came to me with a slightly bent latch tab in the trunk, enough that nothing I could do would open the trunk lid. Ultimately, pressing down on the trunk lid and pushing the button hard enough to move the entire panel a bit was enough to clear the striker and allow the lid to open. There's a groove worn in the tab from being misaligned so long, bending it back slightly has allowed it to work perfectly and effortlessly since. Not sure how similar the W210 is, but the combination of pushing down the lid and firmly pressing the release button got mine to let go.

Oh that's easy.
Before performing any latch repair that might stick the trunk, put film maker son in trunk. Arm him with a Swiss Army knife, flashlight ( with weak batteries ) and a camcorder. Tell him to generate a film mashup of the Blair Witch Project, Christine and Repo Man. If that doesn't work, removing tail lights in the body first might help. Are you sure the stab isn't on backwards? |

I have a W210 (a '98 e300). My trunk button hasn't worked well for a couple of years -- sort of hit or miss. When it doesn't work, I resort to the button on the console. If the car is not running, I have to pull the button three or four times to get the trunk open. The button works better if the car is running. Trunk operation is also better when I keep the weather stripping around the trunk lid clean, free of stuff my trees drop.
I know its a problem I should address but just haven't done it. |

Lean on the trunk lid and use the blade key?

I've never tried that; will do it next time I have trouble. Thanks. |
