I thought I had a second gen 126 fan, but maybe not. Comparing the two, yes it appears a little thinner. It may be just enough to not have to modify the grille. However, I may go with the puller fan anyway. The only thing I would be concerned about, is that the ONLY cooling fan is electric, with no mechanical fan to rely on. I may even try a solid engine driven fan, and the pusher fan for A/C only.

You do have a 2nd gen fan. It came in two versions. A bullet nose hub and a flat hub. Funola found that they have the same part numbers. So it's all about physically observing to make sure you have the right fan.

Are you saying you'd only go with one fan?.. Only one puller fan? I'd rather not do that if that is the case. It seems if you go through all the trouble to make a dual condenser setup, you shouldn't skimp on air flow.

No I would not go with one fan, unless it is a puller. If I went with the 126 pusher fan, I would also make the engine fan solid. I am a little uneasy about only having one fan, and it being electric. I know all newer cars do it that way.

No. He lives in California's Mojave Desert, which gets much hotter than most placed on the equator. Highest recorded temperature on earth was in CA Death Valley (~124 F). Forget the Libya record. Scientists recently re-evaluated that data from 1920's and decided it was more like 115 F, which is barely notable in CA or AZ.

Yes, but I never installed it since the thicker fan was already installed (after clearance-ing the grill) and working fine.

Here are some pics of the new fan. It's less than 2.75" thick. $125 + shipping that's a great price for a new Bosch fan.

Any progress to report? Pictures of the final installation?
Thanks!

I have actually done another one since, but failed to get photos. Here are some photos of the first one.

That looks very nice! How does it perform? Is it using R134a or R12?
Here in North Alabama in the summer we have humidity in the 90% range and temps in the mid to upper 90F. My a/c only cools at 55 mph and above. I am very interested in this approach.

Please let us know the specifics..
Thanks!

Both were done at the end of summer, so it is hard to tell if it will be an improvement. I can only assume that during the hottest days next year here in So. Cal, he will be freezing inside the cabin of his 300SD. This system has several things going for it that are positive compared to the stock system. Sanden vs GM R4, Parallel Flow condenser(s) vs serpentine tube and fin, high CFM fan running whenever the compressor clutch is engaged vs thermal switch energizing the fan later. The only negative would be that he is running 134a, not R12. All things considered, it should be a major upgrade in terms of efficiency from the stock system.....Rich

More photos of the latest installation. I had to offset the two condensers this time because both the two top fittings did not fit the tight space. I think I will use a 16X20 and a 16X24 the next time I do one of these.
