Having a little trouble with a rear W126 window.
 

The FSM online doesn't seem to cover the removal and replacement of a rear window regulator for the w126. I removed a good one from my parts car and all hades broke loose when I unbolted the motor. Where is the window supposed to be to do with without the racket?

I'm also having issues with the interior window sweep on that rear door. I just can't tell how the inner sweep comes off without damage. Anyone taken one of the inner sweeps off?

If you took the regulator out, the window will drop down in the door. The only thing holding it up is the arm on the window regulator.

Same thing will happen if the chicken$**t little plastic slide they use breaks when it's raining outside and you want the windows up...:mad:

I broke that lower slide piece on one car. I figure replacing the regulator with a used one is probably as good or better than taking a bad one and trying to replace that broken slide thing.

You've replace a regulator on a rear door. Will you give me the outline so I can at least follow a proper process? What part comes off first and where should the window be when I start?

I just did the repair on my rear door regulator this past weekend. The slide replacement was really easy once the regulator was out. Just drill the old one out and install the new one by peening it down with a hammer. Getting it back in involved holding your mouth just right but it eventually slipped in place. With hindsight, you may want to connect the motor wiring before trying to get the slide back into the track.

Regarding the inner wipe, you will need to disassemble more of the door, including the small 1/4 window. From what I could tell, this would require unbolting the divider between and sliding it down.

The window regulator should be in the "down" position when removing and reinstalling. There's a lot of wiggling and "holding your mouth right" to make it work out. Don't forget to grease the track where the plastic slide rides. The OEM plastic slides are garbage IMO. I can't believe that ever made it to production. After replacing my left rear twice, I made my own out of UHMW plastic and haven't looked back.

I am not sure what an inner wipe is. But as I remember on my '81 300SD when I replaced the left rear regulator (to replace the plastic sliding jaw - yes, it has a name), it seems like I had to unbolt and move over a metal strut to get enough room to wiggle the regulator out - or maybe get it back in - not sure.

But I do think that strut has to be unscrewed and moved over. Seems like that strut is just below the back fly window.

I am trying to describe the rubber seal which spans the distance between the metal body of the door and the glass. It's a rubber squeegee that rides against the glass and keeps water from running into the lower cavity of the door.

The interior seal is easy to remove. Removal of the exterior seal is not so obvious. I have replacements which are in good shape for both seal.

I removed the metal track that holds the rear of the window to remove the motor and regulator. I suppose that is an acceptable way to do it.

I appreciate all the help and apologize for not knowing the proper terms of the subjects and my inability to describe them clearly.
