What is this line?

Hi all. If you've read my water pump post, you know I'm having problems starting the car. I started looking for vacuum lines I may have knocked off and found a possible candidate. Under the coolant resevoir are two lines. One is a set of wires that attach to the alternator. Right next to that is a rubber hose. What is that rubber hose and where does it connect to? Thanks in advance.

Without pictures that would be hard to know. That sounds like it may be the line to the EGR valve which should be disconnected anyway. You should be looking at the back of the Injection Pump for the vacuum actuator for the fuel shut off. There is a vacuum line to it. If its disconnected the car will not shut off. If it is connected, then the actuator is bad. You can check it with a Mity-Vac. pump tester.

the rubber hose sounds like the coolant reservoir overflow drain tube which should not be attached at the drain end to anything, just hangs down towards the front behind the pass side headlight.
