That looks like it can be fixed, and probably for not a whole lot. You may end up with a salvage title if you don't play it exactly right with the Insco, but it you plan to be buried in the car...

I agree, depending on if the frame got damaged. But to me, that looks like it could all be repaired.

I'm not sure what the difference is or the ramifications are with regard to the the salvage title but that will be what it is since they are calling it a total loss.

With $1000 deductible I walk with $5500 and the car. I'd love to fix it but I don't the resources or the time right now. Finding all the right parts would take some doing but if I was a guy with time, skills and resources this would be a good one fix up. I'll take pictures of the engine and housing to give someone a better idea of what the job would entail.

The only issue is adjuster showed me the very minuscule signs that the frame did absorb a very slight tweak. Their very fine and tiny cracks under the tirewell on the right front. but he said it was very minimal and it could be set very easily.

Anyway, I'm buried and have to get back to work. I probably posted this in the wrong forum and I apologize. I just wanted to get it up for you guys to see what your thoughts were and go home as it was 2:30AM last night and i'm a hurtin unit right now. =)

It's probably too late any way but what is playing it just right with them?

I was thinking it would be my last car but now it can't be and I can't really fix it myself just don't have the facilities, expertise or resources to do so. =(

If you had not accepted their check, and kept possession of the car (it is YOUR property, regardless of the collision or where it went for repairs) then you could have negotiated the proper value of the car based on (1) it is very rare and becoming more valuable due to rarity and (2) all the maintenance and repairs you put into keeping the condition very nice and (3) just try to find another in similar or better condition that is currently for sale in your area. Show examples of sales during the last year of similar condition wagons (look at Ebay, Bring-a-Trailer, look in Craigs List and Hemmings for current listings). Get the valuation high enough, and then the cost of repairs won't make it a total loss.

I don't have the tools, facilities or the know how, primarily, to repair it. it was my daily driver and only source of transportation so I've had to move on. There has been some interest I just don't know what fair market value is for it. For this forum I don't mind if I'm under market value as long I'm not getting gouged and I don't want to gouge anyone. I want both parties to walk away feeling better and happy with the deal.

Just got a message as to availability on this so I'm posting to the threads it is no longer available=

I ended up clearing $7400 after the $1000 deductible and finally just letting AAA take it for $650 to sell to scrapyard or whatever they do. AAA offers fair value and I highly recommend them.
