Plating done!

I went to the plating shop this morning and picked up the yellow zinc plated parts. They look great! I have everything I need except for some hardware, and time to weld up some plates. I believe I should have some ready to ship next week.

The Gen III kit will include the following:
Updated mounting plate= 3/8" thick plate and mounting tabs (Gen II has 5/16" plate, 1/4" tabs), both front AND rear braces, Dual adjusting bars (Gen II has only one), M10 compressor mount bolts (Gen II had 3/8), and a Dayco or Gates premium belt.

The price for the Gen III kit is $250 + shipping. I will also be offering a choice in hose routing for the #8 discharge (high side) hose going from the compressor to the condenser. Either over the top, or down below like the factory hose assembly. The hose kit price will also increase to $120 on Aug 1 2018 (and/or with any Gen III kit). The rest of the prices are the same: Hose for P.F. condenser=$20, Fan relay=$30, Drier= $20, Low side pipe welding service=$25.

I still have a few Gen II kits that I will be saving for use in N/A applications. It remains at $200.

Thanks Rich for making these! Just got back from a 4k mile trip in our 85' wagon in 95º temps and the A/C worked flawlessly!

Hey Rollguy,

Do you know which pulley belt the AC will line up on? From memory, the first pulley groove on the crank pulley goes to the alternator. I cannot recall the AC. I have a double belt set up cooking for an OM617.951. That is, double ribbed / groove alternator pulley which will go to the crank. I would like to verify that the AC will line up at least one belt to the Sanden with your Gen 3 kit. Also, do you know if you can get a double pulley head for the Sanden?

From the crank to the front of the car: 2 alternator/water pump belt, A/C belt, P.S. Belt. If you only have a single alternator belt, the rest of the pulleys still line up with their accessories. If you wanted to use both pulleys on the compressor, you would need three crank pulleys the same size (custom). One would be for the alt, and two for the A/C. The 4272 Sanden comes with a two groove pulley. If you are thinking about a serpentine setup, parts from a 60X engine would work best.

TIA,
Depends on what refrigerant is used, condenser type, ambient temp, and the condition/cleanliness of the evaporator. Other than the Sanden being more efficient than an R4, vent temps would be similar with everything else being equal. The system in my TD has the 7 cyl Sanden, Parallel Flow condenser, big fan, and R12. There is no comparison between this and a stock system running 134a, regardless what compressor is used. Changing out the R4 to a Sanden, and leaving everything stock will only provide more compressor longevity, and maybe less HP draw on the engine.

Hardware

I got most of the hardware yesterday. Just one more order of bolts to arrive tomorrow, and the hardware bags will be ready to seal up.

I still have to make specific instructions for this kit. I will be taking photos and making an instruction sheet with detailed illustrations. I will provide this with each kit. Along with the PDF Installation Guide link found in any of my posts, installing the kit should be easy for most anyone......Rich

Hardware packs done!

I got remaining bolts I needed, and got all the hardware packs done. I also made a hardware illustration to show what fasteners go where. I will include this with each kit ordered. The next thing to do is weld up some plates! By next week sometime, I will be ready for the onslaught of kit orders!

If my '79 300TD had a functioning climate cntrl Servo I would be placing an order for sure!
I have the parallel flow condenser. That's half the project isn't it?

I think its like terminal when that went out, I replaced it but the replacement is not working now I think the CC module is defective. Not wanting to start a money sinkhole, I am working on brakes for the '00 E320 presently, too many cars not enough time!
Kudos for all the good work though!

Thumbs up Sanden AC Upgrade

My '84 300CD has the older kit with the cross flow condenser and I just drove it to Nevada and back, one way pedal to the metal, coming back relaxed @ 62 MPH cruise control .

Left dash vent varied from a low of 42* F to a high of 55* F in Baker where it was 100* F out side .

Car was fully loaded with people and luggage .

If you like to drive your W123, BUY THIS KIT .

I can't wait to get the Gen. III kit installed into my '84 graymarket 300TD.....

Kits available

I still have a few kits available. Current price is: $300 for the Gen III kit, $150 for the standard hose kit (for use with factory condenser), $25 for the additional hose if running a PF condenser. Drier $30, Fan relay kit: $40.
