How is this for hood padding
I saw following website while looking for hood pad and soundproofing. I have no hood pad now so I need to put one in.
Can someone tell me what do you think of this http://www.soundproofing.org/sales/prices.html I spoke to them and they said its temp resistant upto 225 F. and Between 180-225 f it looses it shape. but not its performance. A total of 15 sq ft. would run about 82+9 bucks SH say 90/- Do you think its worth it. A once inch thick pad will weigh 1/2 lbs per sq ft. The guy there said ( off course) its great stuff better than factory padding. Its FAA approved for immflamability Any opinion. Also what could be the hottest temp in the hood on a normally cooling car on the hottest day with AC on? My needle usually stays below 90C or about 180-190F. MVK

I just replaced my hood pad with an OEM pad from Performance Products for $46.00.
It only took about an hour to install, and it really made a difference in making the car more quiet. See the link below for a pic Robert http://home.attbi.com/~frickfamily/mb-3.jpg |

I would be hard pressed to purchase something like that at approximately twice the price of what it would cost from here. I doubt that you would see that much improvement in the noise reduction.

That temperature range is inadequate
If it were 180-220 Celsius, that would be fine, but underhood temperatures above 180 F are everyday things with AC cars, and so this stuff will sag down on your motor. Underhood temperatures over 220 F aren't all that unusual either, in slow traffic.

Stick with the OEM
MVX:
There is another interesting thread about a non-standard (enhanced) hood pad installation:http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?threadid=38297 Those guys did quite a bit of work. I think that it is not until this level of detail is applied that any additional benefits will be noticed from application of different pad materials. I would stick with the $25 non heat sheild (No Turbo) or $35 heat sheild (Turbo) from the folks that sponsor this forum (PartsShop or FastLane). I recently replaced mine with one from here, and it was a snap to install. Also made a noticable difference in cabin noise level. Plus you get a nice big box. Just my $.02 l8r, James

Thank you all for helping me make up my mind. I will go with the OEM from Fastlane but its out of stock there or from performanceparts.
