Help me understand your logic. It is okay for you to call the OP a dingus, but it is not okay for the OP to consider the possibility that his mechanic is a dingus? Could you clarify how that is internally consistent? Actually, don't bother, because you are clearly being hypocritical.

PP doesn't allow personal attacks, which is basically what you did. I get it that you think you know more than the OP and that in your mind, auto mechanics can do no wrong. I didn't comment when you first did your name calling, but you couldn't let it go with just one round of rudeness. So here we are.

The OP had a reasonable question. If you don't like his use of the word dingus, don't lower yourself to the same level by using the same word.

And regarding your question about his use of the word "short." I am guessing that the fuse didn't blow. Because his car doesn't use one in the GP system. So even after 40+ years in the car business, there is still some room for you to learn something new.

You're welcome.

My 1987 300TD wagon was sold and my 2003 W210 E320 wagon was totaled (sheds tear).

The OP was deserving of harsh words _only_ because he went straight for the shop is stupid card. If he thinks it is OK to use that term on others then he should be accepting of it used towards himself. I'm using his logic / sensibilities not mine.

As stated in my previous post, had he gently stated that the shop needed help, things would not have gone down this path.

So, it's OK for someone to attack a shop that isn't here to defend themselves? Others were piling on making light of "smoking out the vacuum system" not making the connection to a vacuum shutdown system so some of that post is directed towards them.

I never belittle someone that doesn't know and is seeking help, I'm actually an excellent teacher with the ability to put complex systems into understandable terms. I do take issue with someone that thinks they know, employs the services of a person that is competent, then berates them for not knowing every detail of an obscure 40 year old device.

If you saw someone with flawed knowledge berating a person in your profession, how would you handle the situation?

I don't know every detail of every car, my post stated fuse clear or wires melt so that covers it either way.
