1976 300d w115 transmission issues

So I just bought a 300d and it shifts really late, like redline late. When I let off the accelerator it falls slat on its face. I need to know how to adjust the linkage or Bowden cable. My tranny has no vacuum lines going to it. So my only adjustment must be the linkage unless I am missing something. I have pics of the linkage but I can't upload them from my phone so I'm happy to email anyone pics for help. The main issues are that it shifts hard and late. Thank you for the help. I can't find a service manual on eBay so if anyone knows of one for sale let me know. All tune up procedures are done, new oil, new injectors, new glow plugs and fuel filter. Starts great with just a little smoke. Probably old fuel.

Online FSM W114/W115

D:

Disconnect the linkage that moves with the throttle, and that goes to the arm on the right side of the transmission (control pressure link/rod). Ensure that it is pushed all the way aft. Drive car; any change?

I will try that once I get the new master cylinder in

The link just shows a black screen

Alec's link the the FSM works for me. I am using Chrome and I needed to allow it to use Flash or whatever that website requires.

Do you have a linkage (like my 68 220D) or a bowden cable (like w123s)?

One of the criticisms of a 220d by "Car and Driver" or "Road and Track" (I forget which) when the car was new is that the car slows too quickly after you take your foot off the accelerator. So I cannot help directly with the redline issue, but the rapid slowing after you release the pedal may be normal.

Got it to work on my laptop. I still need a transmission manual. I will check the kickdown switch and report back

Hopefully the kick down switch...good chance it is.

Member Stretch said that only the FSM in German has the Transmission Manual.
You might find a ASTG transmission manual for free if you searc for it. If not copies sell on eBay.
I am not sure which transmission number you have.

I just bought a Mercedes manual that covers my transmission and other early ones as well. If anyone need any info let me know. I would like to have someone scan it so it can be used by everyone if that is possible.

Got the master cylinder in and brakes bled. This big girl does not stop on a dime lol. Any I disconnected the kickdown switch and went for a drive. The staying in gear at high rpm seemed to go away. I had a couple flairs between shifts and the tranny fluid level is a smudge high when I checked. I will order a new kick down switch and report back. I also will take all the slack out of the control rod to see if that helps. I will report back my findings

Derrickd95 10-29-2017 12:44 PM

So on the Bowden rod I add more slack to shift sooner and take out slack to shift later?

Yes, lengthen the rod for earlier shift, shorten for later shift.

As a point of interest, Bowden is a formal name, and the name of the company that designed the cables that bear the name.
The rod which you can adjust on that transmission is the Control Pressure Rod.

Derrickd95 10-29-2017 01:06 PM

Thanks I will throw some slack in it and see what happens. I guess it's going to be trial and error to hit the sweet spot

Derrickd95 10-29-2017 01:45 PM

Are there any specific measurements of each rod of the linkage I could use to eliminate any guess work?
