'75 300d

Well, looking around on Autotrader, I may have found a car for my girlfriend. It's a '75 300D (I'm guessing that's a W115 body?) automatic. I've been reading up mainly on the W123 and W126 bodies, but don't know much about these.

Is there anything specific to this bodystyle to look for? Is the bodystyle typicaly filled with vacuum-actuated power options a' la the W123/W126 cars? Essentially, what's the difference between the two?

The car's in San Diego and is selling for only $895, so I'm a bit wary...but it's in her price range...I can't find the ad again, but I think it said the interior needs help but the drivetrain's happy.

Thoughts? Thanks!

...anyone?

I may have time next weekend to drive by there (have to be in L.A. for a wedding next Saturday), but it's a fairly tight schedule...any feedback would be appreciated. I've finally got my girlfriend keen on wanting a Benz...now I just need to get my van sold so I can get my Benz

'75 is the first year for the five cylinder engine and the first year for the key start system as opposed to the glow knob. The W115s are good, solid performers. Since you're in California, the car should be rust free if it's spent it's entire life there. The biggest spot for rust on those cars are the tops of each front fender right above the headlight buckets. When they rust there, it's generally not worth repairing it as that usually means more serious rust underneath. The locks are the only vacuum operated option on the car, and most likely the windows will be crank type. There really isn't much to say about these cars, they're basic and reliable. Watch for some A/C problems (if equipped). Parts are readily available and are for the most part, inexpensive.
