timing chain tensioner
recently pulled the head from my 1995 e300d and am in the process of reinstalling it. The manual I have says that the chain tensioner needs to be filled with SAE 10 engine oil. I can't find a place to buy a quart of this. Internet will sell me a case. Any suggestions.

Hello and welcome to the forum! Take a look at the link below to a DIY tech article from our site on the procedure. I do not see this oil mentioned in the guide.

I used 10-30 for the same reasons you stated.

timing chain tensioner
Thanks for the info. I am going to use 10w30 to load the tensioner. The link was also helpful.

Where can I buy the 2 new rings that the link above (Mercedes-Benz W124 Timing Chain Tensioner Replacement | 1986-1995 E-Class | Pelican Parts DIY Maintenance Article) says they should be new. Look like crush washers, so they would need to be replaced.

If they are aluminum crush washers, you can generally reuse them multiple times without incident if they aren't all chewed up. Copper washers should be replaced rather than reused.

They are aluminum, so I will reuse them. Still wish I could find some new ones.

Any nut and bolt place will have washer of both copper and aluminum. You won't have to pay shipping and they usually give me one or two without charge.
