300cd value??

I am looking at an '84 with a reported 155k on it. Sunroof, rear windows inoperable, AC needs a compressor. The car is red, the interior panels are palomino, and the seats look to be some version of red (not pinkomino for sure). Rear bumper looks pushed in (or remounted poorly) Body and paint look good, jack points look rust free.
The ask is 5.5K. Comments? |
That sounds like too much $ for that car in my opinion. If it had the correct color seats, it would be closer, but still too much. Also, if the paint is not original, definitely too much. Yes the coupes command more $ than sedans, but $5,500 is getting close to what you could buy a nice wagon (TD) for. It could be a matter of geographical location. Here in CA, these cars are somewhat plentiful. A majority are rust free, but many have sun damaged interiors. And you can forget about getting one with a crack-free dash.
EDIT: By the way, the seats appear to be Henna Red, which is a very rare color. The seats being that color, and being from a coupe, make them all the more rare (I have seen a lot of coupes, but never one with Henna Red). That may be a good bargaining chip to be used to get the car for less. Having to change the seats back to Palomino could be costly, but selling the Henna Red seats (finding someone with a coupe interior that color may be next to impossible) might make the job pay off in the end. |
Henna Red. Hmm maybe that is the unexplained option listed on the vin decoder site.
I have a vw bus, no need for a TD. Will check on paint originality. Might have a lead on matching seats, but a Henna full interior would be pretty cool. |
Make sure those seats are actual coupe seats. They must fold to gain access to rear seating. Sedan seats will fit but do not fold and t is true that a henna red is a hen's tooth in a coupe.

back seat looks coupe correct.

Thanks for the info, going to look at it this weekend, taking a floor jack and stands to get under it, as it is an east coast car.

Good call, neither of the interior pics show them folded or the button on the side. Good luck!

Be fun to see if the vacuum actually holds the seats in place. Mine never have, cause the lines were all pulled out.
Real question is the mileage really as low as it says....or has the odo been in op for that last 20 years. |
What is this vacuum function of which you speak?
