200,000 miles...

Just turned 200,000 miles on my 1983 240D 4spd!
(no applause please)

I wish I could say that I started when it had 0 miles and experienced the full life of this fine vehicle, but I have to admit that I have only owned it for the last 325+/- miles.
(that's why no applause is required...)

This car is incredible! I have been reading some posts about "top speeds" in a 240 and I am a little confused.

I drive the 240D to work every morning, and the picture above is a typical representation of my speed for part of the highway journey. At 85, I still feel as if I have plenty of space left between the pedal and the floor, and at 85ish it definately does NOT feel as though I am topped out! Maybe they are talking about automatic trannys?

Anyhoo, I plan on keeping this car for many years to come and at LEAST another 200K. This is the car that my daughter will be learning how to drive on when she is old enough...in 2016.

Nice Going !

dieseldaddy;

Congrats ! Are you gonna get a grill badge? I think you get them at 200,000. Someone chime in if I am incorrect.

EDIT:
Found the Answer
Badge levels:

250,000 kilometers (c. 156,000 miles),
500,000 kilometers (312,500 miles),
1 million kilommeters (c. 620,000 miles).

The badges only come marked in metric distances.

So you are kinda in between badges, but it must have been quite a sight to see all those numbers turning over at once. Did the car pull at all from having to move that 1K to a 2K?

l8r,
James

James,
The lights dimmed a little when it rolled over...

I called in to get the info to get the "250,000km" badge and I will proudly attach it to the grill.

My other MB ('81 300TDT 152,500) is nearing the first milestone as well. At the rate it gets driven - my wife's car - I may get my next badge b4 she gets her first...

Where do you get the grill badges? My 82 has 291,000 and my 86 has 240,000, still running strong.

1.800.FOR.MERC

Tell them you want a "high mileage award" form.
They told me I will have to take it to the nearest MB dealership for them to verify then send it back in. From what I hear on this forum should take about 1 month or so to get it.

Tom, your '82 is nearing the second plateau! Might as well wait and get them both at the same time!!

GOT IT!!

OK, I sent it in on 6/10 and received it yesterday (7/12). Not bad. One month from start to finish!

I attached it today, after giving the 240D a much needed bath:

(I think it looks a little proud...don't you?)
Is that a tear? No, just the windshield washer nozzle leaking.

It also drives better with the new badge. I think I got about .5HP improvement and I can now get 40mpg.
