OM605 with OM602 pump, how the fuel lines should be?

Hello,

I have a project that has the OM605 engine. Since I didn't have any electronic boxes for it, i needed to get rid of the original electronic fuel pump.

I have a mechanic pump (picture attached at the end of the post) that I believe is from OM602 engine.

My friend connected the fuel lines because I didn't have any idea how they should be. And I have started to think that neither did he :D The engine is running but somehow I think that everything is not right / connected into the right places. And there are also several connections that are "unused", I think at least the fuel pre-heater is not in use now.

Also I think that the engine is using a lot of fuel at the moment.

If someone has any tips? All hints are taken with great gratitude.

Here is some photos, I have added some explanation text(s) under the images:

1: not connected
2: return to tank, smaller pipe (rounded with red) goes behind the pump
3: from the tank
4: goes to the pump, see next picture
5: not connected

So, the lower connection in this picture is connected with the previous picture's number 4.

Thanks in advance...

Have you tried looking up a factory service manual for the 190D? I believe the W201 190D diesel has the OM602 with a mechanical fuel pump. And the R&R section should be sufficient in telling you what goes where.

I ended up to change the routes to match the picture in this pdf:

With only one exception, I have a connection on the other side of the pump and in that picture there is no such connection. So, I decided to leave it on place, it goes to that primary filter connection. I guess that it is a return hose.

Seems to be working now.
