Are these factory wheels?
I am being told that these are the original, factory wheels on this car. Were these wheels available on a 1981 SD?

Thank you ! .
I always assumed the chrome Bundts were aftermarket . Even in Los Angeles the chrome peels after a few years .

Original wheels, possibly; original finish, unlikely. There is no data card option code for chrome or polished bundts.

Right! Usually if it came on a brand new car, it was a dealer installed item by exchanging the factory wheel.

For an option to be factory original, it would need to be installed before the car is delivered to the dealers lot. There needs to be a factory option code for any of this. ( Port of entry installed parts would be OK )
Dealer installed options ( like factory a provided AC kit. ) would be for something that could have come from the factory but was not on a specific car in question. This is a middle ground of originally. Dealer installed accessories ,no matter how common, are not factory original but are a step above a random aftermarket accessory if documentation is provided. |

I never saw factory chrome bundts in ‘81, all the cars that came through the dealer I worked for were painted. All were chrome exchanges at the request of the customer if desired. We only ordered top of the line cars, if chrome was available I’m sure the S class 500’s we Brought in would’ve had them.
Your bundts could the factory wheels, but they could be the Ronals that were around in the day.
