Turbo oil drain tube sectional seal question
 

I am replacing all of the seals on my turbo drain tube and I am confused on whether to install the sectional seal on the oil pan first or slide it over the tube then install it into the top of the pan.

The shop manuals don’t say and can’t find answer on any of the forms. I’m in the middle of this project and I’m having serious difficulties with it.

I read how one guy did it shortly after posting

Its a tricky little dude to get in there correctly and a pain to correct if it leaks.

I'm not sure what you are calling the sectional seal. The best method I've found is to install the turbo drain grommet on the lower portion and push it up a little ways. Then install the O-rings on each end.
To get the lower portion to seat, I used a socket and extension large enough to fit over the tube without damage then drive it into place. Place the upper portion onto the lower tube and push down all the way to enable you to tilt it into place and reattach to the turbo.
The last step is to push the turbo drain grommet down the pipe and seat it into place. A small crow foot or flare nut wrench helps to get it to seat. It helps to use plenty of assembly lube or even KY will do in a pinch.
