Cupholder Drink Cup Beverage Holder Location Redux

Same old choices, folding/not folding/use the parcel tray under the armrest, but trying a slightly different location for a folder style cup holder. For me the parcel tray is premium real estate for everything else and there is a drink height limit with the armrest down. Otherwise I've seen a roll of duct tape in the parcel tray and of course the wood inserts. There are also plenty of other options near this console/tunnel area like cutting the hook off of a $1 Wal-Mart window hanger type drink holder and screwing it down. This should also be reversible. If the holes show you can always take a sliver of carpet from a hidden area and fill them in.

I can only verify that running two short screws here worked fine in THIS specific vehicle. Even on another identical series/year/model anyone could have routed anything behind this area of the tunnel after 30+ years so check what's behind yours first. It's not for everyone but it solved a lot. It's out of my way when driving and I can still reach it just fine. If you have a passenger who has to have their leg pressed up against the console then just fold up the cupholder and proceed in the default condition(no cupholder) for the duration.

It took some studying to pick an exact spot. In a coupe this spot lets the seat slide all the way up with the cupholder folded, allows clearance for a rather tall drink(mandatory Sonic Route 44 tea for running all day in 100'F in Texas), and a regular can isn't so far down that it's a hassle for the driver. You could always place it closer to the seat/deeper in the curve for passenger leg clearance but at some point it might limit how far up the seat can slide. The other factor was spills. A spill tends to happen during take off and landing of the beverage, man(imitating The Dude from Big Lebowski). Everything below this cupholder area is a little lower on the pita list than spills/drips over the console.

Ive found a solution to this issue all by accident ,as I general comb thru the yards for w123 s I came across a nice center console and for a mere $10 it was mine out the door.Got it inside my car after getting it back to the car and all by accident I placed it between the 2 frt sits ,and its placement is sitting on the back seat .The drink holders are foreword and supplies 2 holders that also allow for large drinks.Im not attaching it with any bolts or screws ,it really just sits on the middle of the back seat ,has an armrest for the back seat passengers as a bonus. This folds up and Ive included a few sm. paint cans to give it some weight ,this so it wont turn over when turning corners and supplies ample storage as a bonus.I do like this other c. console on ebay though , might buy it for the 300cd,its offered in a palomino color.https://www.ebay.com/itm/VDP-Ultimate-Locking-Center-Console-31501/263077688731?_trkparms=ao%3D1%26asc%3D41375%26meid%3D98e1ed3829be43e285e0c10ffc07f92c%26pid%3D100705 %26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26&_trksid=p2045573.c100705.m4780

I like this cup holder. Very sturdy, very easy to mount and remount... found mine in a Salvation Army store for .99

When did you buy your 300cd? I know this car.
A few qrt sized Paint cans, only weight I had at the handy ,sealed non opened ,I guess a bar of gold would have got it done ,soon enough prices of fuel will require some gold shavings.A flat piece of steel will eventually be the permant fix ,1/4 inch plate cut to fit ,around 5 pounds is all thats needed.

Odd, when I clicked my email link back to this thread it said I had been unsubscribed. Does it do that if there are multiple posts between visits?

Yes, I forgot you can also use an SUV center storage console or the like weighted with paint cans.

I got it earlier this year. Been going through it and fixing all of the usual ailing stuff. Drive train felt less than "OK" when I looked at it but I could tell it was just tuning, adjustments, throttle linkage, etc. The seller either didn't know anything about the car(flipping it) and/or their mechanic was a hack. I could see that the entire cruise control was set up backwards mechanically with the linkages running on the outer/passenger side. Unhooked it down the road and it felt like it got a tuneup.

The motor you have in your car is a good one ,its was once owned by me , a yr ago I sold a complete 300cd car with bad trannie ,he bought it for the motor and had it installed .That will explain some of your issues.

That does explain a lot. The car had a tiny 2" diameter Autozone temperature gauge hanging under the dash with the wire running under the car. Easier than replacing a missing wire to the original gauge I guess. He claimed that he had the engine rebuilt. I said "Ok" and then proceeded to not believe a word he said. It's easy to say it but when it comes to buying a car it's all just talk absent hard proof. Do you remember anything about the turbo? It's never done anything.

Does the turbine spin freely ,dont know which one he used, his or the one that was on the engine .It worked and drove the car to where he pulled the engine and had it put into this car.Once the car was without motor he promissed to get rid of the car ,a local towing yard has sent me a cert. letter to come get this car AT THEIR YARD.Seems he had it parked and gave a send off without a care.Sorry ,it is a good motor,I think I have the compression numbers written down somewhere. All very good ,its been well taken care of.Turbo can be sourced ,I have a good core, and understand your in need of a cd frt seat also?

I'll PM you to keep this thread on track.

It would be neat to see more pics of cupholder variants in use in the wild.
