Climate Control

Holy crap, I'm sure someone thought it was a great idea but damn, I would love to have a simple heat lever and fan switch. Something is funky with my SDL. Heat is inconsistent. Tends to go away at freeway speeds.

Time for a new monovalve cartridge. OEM only please, forget wasting your money on the MTC or generic ones.

This https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00SAFM5U0/ref=asc_df_B00SAFM5U05275048/?tag=hyprod-20&creative=395033&creativeASIN=B00SAFM5U0&linkCode=df0&hvadid=167120909983&hvpos=1o2&hvnetw=g&hvrand=17211596150193206192&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9004382&hvtargid=pla-315946828028 would work as a monovalve replacement. If you can control the ball valve opening size (not sure if possible), you can control temperature. If not, heat is on or off.

He who shall not be named apparently has a video on how to change out the guts of that unit for a less painful price. I'm on the road, only with my iPhone, I'll look into it later.

The monovalve cartridge is under $40 for an OEM replacement. The monovalve unit itself is several hundred bucks. If $40 is a "painful" price, don't dare look at the cost of a new radiator...

Actually, I installed a new radiator in my W123. Nissens, a radiator superior to the OE with reinforced necks. Cost about $140 as I recall. Nissens is a Danish company.

Radiators for the SDL's have been NLA for several years. Finding a used one is relatively expensive, the only other option is a custom made one or getting creative with bodging something else in there.

No, I meant the $40 is less painful that buying the entire control valve which is about $330.

$40 is a good price. If I get away with a fix for that price, oh hell yes.

Has anyone ever seen an SDL at a boneyard? Not I. Quite a few SELs, but I'm guessing the radiator is different.

Are you certain you don't have air in your cooling system? That can cause sporadic heat from the heater.

Hey, good tip. If you are correct, I will place 18 giggleschnarps of extragalactic energy units into your account.

I might add, I had to bleed the BMW coolant system after draining and refilling. Probably a similar bleed screw on this one. There's a lot I don't know about this car.

I sure hope I don't have a new radiator in my future. I should keep an eye on all of that.
