This rubber spacer is broken on the stop lever...I need a new one. Does anyone know what part number it is or where i can get a replacement?

Interesting. I don't think that is an OEM part. I don't have one of those on my 1984 300D and I don't recall ever seeing it on the other W123s I have owned. What makes you think you need another one?
It kind of looks like an accelerator pivot mount, but that should be connected on the firewall. Also, what is that strange line connecting over your oil filter housing? Dkr. |
A gentle reminder, list the year and model when you post an inquiry.;)
'Stormcloud', my 1979 W116 300SD (a model 116.120 in MB shorthand), has the same broken part as your 1979 W116 300SD. I haven't been able to find the part number for you, but I did snag a replacement from the Newark Pick-n-Pull on the day I purchased 'Stormcloud'. If I find another I'll pull it for you. If you contact the classic center in Irvine, CA with your VIN they can look up the part number and check availabilty worldwide. The local dealership typically only checks stock in the US. |

Whoops! Sorry! 1979 300SD. :D Ive got the parts zip tied together and it works well but in the spirit of keeping things original... As stated earlier, I noticed that after 1980, you don't see this rubber spacer but it changes to a simple riveted shaft. I may try to make this mod if I cant find the appropriate replacement. |
My 79 rd had it... I parted it completely, I may have it... or it may be on the engine... I'll check.

Got it! Read the part number off the rubber portion Pick-N-Pull replacement Stop Lever.
Part number is 6170703022, which appears to be NLA. My 1978 W116 300SD has a replacement Stop Lever with a MB star on the rubber. It is slightly different with a slot instead of a hole in the small plate and an additional tab with a hole on the main lever. It has no part number other than the decal part number which is 6175840021. The same decal part number is on all three Stop Levers. The vulcanized rubber on the junkyard part is starting to seperate. The junkyard and 'Stormcloud' Stop Levers are missing the rectangular plastic cover on the tab that engages the slot ot the longitudinal linkage arm. They both are also missing the black plastic ring that attaches to the white nylon bushing in the pivot hole of the small metal plate. Age, torque on the part, and heat in the engine bay are the main causes of the vulcanized rubber part failing. The two missing/failed parts probably also hastened the failure of the vulanized rubber portion The failed 'Stormcloud' Stop Lever had been repaired by the prior owner with some high desity foam glued in place of the original rubber, but the adhesive failed. Hence the prior owner's zip tie and copper wire repair. Although not perfect, the replacement part now installed in 'Stormcloud' will do for now. |

Your engine looks like my 1984 and I once took the firewall pivot ball from a 1970's M-B in the junkyard (gas engine I recall), so the other side is likely compatible, so my guess is that a W123 or W126 diesel rod setup would fit your car, if you want to go that route since more common in junkyards. BTW, I did the same "wrap w/ wire" fix as post 6 when the firewall-side rubber split in my 1985, then later got a JY replacement. BTW, doesn't that whole "fuel input rod" setup appear Rube Goldbergish, especially how they added in the cruise control? But, I never thought of a re-design so perhaps some constraints led to that result.
