Engine Compartment refinishing
Hi Folks,
I am wanting to refinish some of the parts in my engine bay since I've spent a great deal of time and effort cleaning it over the past year. Does anyone recommend a Gold paint for use on the plated (don't know with what) parts like injector lines and such. My 240D is in fairly nice shape but would not justify the cost of having all those parts refinished to factory standard so I'll settle for some good old spray paint. I have also noticed so soot/oil that appears to be coming out of the EGR on my car and has sprayed onto the inner fender? is that possible? I disconnected the EGR months ago when troubleshooting some vacuum leaks and never did re-connect it. |

The original plating was a cadmium plating to resist corrosion. Gold paint may look nice for a while, but I'd expect it would flake off over time from heat/vibration/fuel.
If the gasket is bad on your EGR, or if the diaphragm is ruptured, it is conceivable that it would leak exhaust. Check around on it for leakage, you should be able to find it pretty quickly with the engine running. |

Try these folks, they seem to have a pretty good reputation for quality:
Eastwood Golden CAD Complete Kit As with any application, preparation is key if you want it to last.

I’ve used, first, a light coat of cold galvanizing paint (mostly zinc) such as Rust-Oleum, then followed with a light dusting with VHT High Temperature Engine Metallic, SP404 Gold Flake. It comes out looking fairly nice. I started using it a few years ago, and it seems to be holding up pretty well.
