I'd deal direct. EBay gets A little more than 12%. Direct should be cheaper or give a good vendor more cash to stay in business. I hope they aren't going to quit building the 722 trans.

They might be your only choice. Ditto "buy direct". I would also ask what new parts they install. For sure, new clutch plates and seals. Never been in one, but per photos in posts, it appears there are some large plastic parts inside so ask if replaced or how they know they won't later crack. In general, nylon has proven long-lived and transmissions and engines have used it for decades, so perhaps no concern.

I'd like one as a spare before they decide they aren't worth building. My friends in the part business say vehicles reach a point where people quit fixing them and it no longer is worth the shelf space.

Depends on the vehicle. I find that parts get easier over time for my 1960's Mopars. Much of that is from the internet connecting buyers and sellers easier. For a 1960's Mustang or Camaro, you can buy every part to make one from scratch. Not the same for 4 door luxury cars. Don't know where our old M-B diesels stand, but this forum helps keep them going, so thanks to P-P.

^ This is sound advice.

Where does it say ready to ship?

I bought a tranny off Sun Valley two years ago. It is wonderful. I have a thread about it. Maybe I can dig it up.

This is the same price I paid dealing direct with Marc. Additionally, he ran this same auction when I needed my 722.3. They do not have a deep inventory. They have a ton of parts and it takes them a day to put together a tranny for you by VIN. Unless they are building inventory it is more just in time manufacturing not ready to ship.

The problem is getting a place in line. Maybe things are slow right now. When I called in for my trans it took three weeks for them to complete the trans. At that point I had the choice to take delivery and exchange mine or since I’m local, have them install it for a very reasonable price. I chose the install and it took four days because they were very busy.

The result was fantastic though. I’ve seen junkyard transmissions for $500 since then but I’m really glad I got the Sun Valley since the car is my daily driver.

Edit - here it is

Sun Valley Rebuilt Transmissions thoughts?
