Aside from in town deliveries... Tesla semi cannot work...
It's about energy to weight... and cost. Scishow did a great video on it. Nope. Publicity all the way. It would take 16 hyperchargers to get battery banks to charge it in under 24 hours, and the battery would consume 2/3 the semii's maximum road weight... Unless Tesla gets the maximum weight raised for electric semis... I think everybody on here knows my take on drive for my life... The big thing is... have backup parts cars.

I plan to keep and drive mine for the rest of my life, and work on them as much as I can. If the world is taken over by smartphones on wheels and the government takes away and smashes the car my dad bought when I was 5 and that I have poured my heart and soul and money into, they can do it with me in it. The future people are painting is so bleak and soulless (with cars and everything else), I become overwhelmingly depressed thinking about it. So, I'm trying to enjoy whatever time I have with my cars and not waste every day now worrying about the future ... easier said than done especially since I can't find any segment of the car hobby where one can have a conversation about the cars they like without people rambling on about whatever robot future is inevitable and how we'd better get used to it and say goodbye to our cars. Anyhow, in the event the world doesn't collapse: I don't think my old diesels will be my primary drivers at this point, though when I finish restoring my 300D I intend to daily drive it in the warm months and maybe do some road trips. I might relent and get a newer car at some point (relatively soon because at least there are still a few new cars with a little appeal) because I'll admit I'm getting overwhelmed with trying to keep mine going. The Jeep has more and more issues and unfortunately my life circumstances and health are just making it hard for me to keep up with everything and thus taking some of the fun out. I wouldn't get rid of any of my oldies (or the Jeep) though and plan to keep them going ... I think I would just be more successful at that with a backup, and would get back to enjoying the hobby. They might not be that practical anymore or efficient or green, or important or valuable classics, but they are an important part of my life and a part of history and I remain enamored with the way they are built, the way they drive, sound and even smell.

I'm never selling my fintail, so I guess that counts as driving it for life! I never thought of any car as "too old to drive" anyway.

I've had my 300D for over 12 years. I've contemplated getting rid of it, but I couldn't buy anything I liked better for a reasonable price. I'll probably keep it until corrosion (slow in northern Nevada) or a collision make it un-economical to keep. I'll also keep an alternate. At the moment that's a Triumph Street Triple. Next might be a GSX-R750 or an S1000RR.

My intent is to be driving a car with a 616 or 617 engine until I am no longer allowed to drive. It has been hinted that I am well on my way to becoming an eccentric old curmudgeon, so no use fighting it. I have reached the age where I don't care what people think, so am not bothered by driving an older car.
Considering the longevity in the family, I figure I have another 25 to 30 years of driving time. My two concerns to being able to continue to drive are my ability to continue to maintain the cars, and part availability. Like the OP, I am trying to figure out what parts I need to pick up to keep the cars running long term. I walk to work, so suspect I drive less miles then the average person, but still am trying to figure out what I need to stock up on for the future. What are the rest of you stocking up on? I spent 1/2 the afternoon scrubbing diesel smoot off the cove of my cpupe then washing it, to - morrow I'll do a routine valve adjust, change the fuel filters in advance of troubles and maybe even put some properly rebuilt injectors in it.... Why not ? I'm so foolish I think it's fine to daily drive plus road rally my 34 year old beat to crap 422,000 + miles Mercedes diesel . If it makes you happy, do it .

Yes, If possible.
I have been daily driving my 300D now for over 8 years straight. I have replaced most everything and it is really sorted out. Normally I would get car fever every year or two and want something else to drive, not so with this one. I will be moving to Italy permanently in a two years and I would take it with me. Unfortunately it would be really cost prohibitive, and its a bit big for most of the parking spaces and moving around on the narrow rural roads. But I have discovered that there seem to be a plethora of very nice 190D's to be had. That most likely will be my next Mercedes.

I definitely plan on driving my 85 300D until I am 80. And hopefully beyond that. But then, I have less than 2 years to go! Still do all the maintenance. But doesn't need much. This past year, just valve adjustment, replace blower motor.
We have had this car for 28 years and it has now done 440k km. We have extra cars, but the 123 is still my favourite.
