Didn't realize they made a Diesel limo in the 80's

Cruising around CL and found this for sale near me.
The doors don't look like most 300D limos online. Did somebody actually cut a sedan in half and weld in a center section?

I would definitely put the money into fixing this old beast. it's cool! I wonder how it would go trying to get tags for it.

I'm thinking it is a USA domestic conversion due to:

vertical coach light just behind driver door.

small window in stretch portion

MB star just ahead of rear door.

None of the above mods look factory MB to me as they are out of character and look more home made Vs having access to MB suppliers for modded parts.

I'm pretty sure factory MB limos used quarter panels from a 2 dr car and the front of a 4 dr with the rear doors being stretched to match the 2 dr quarters.

That’s a US cut and stretch. The factory LWB looks like this -

Note how the rear door is hinged at the b-pillar and it’s a tailored door, not a regular sedan door moved aft.

There’s a similar LWB 115. MB didn’t stretch 124 bodies in house, but they supplied LWB cab-chassis to Binz and such coachbuilders.

Sixto as usual has it right. I do believe there was a factory built limo with less stretch though.

There was a limo around here advertised for sale for several years I'm fairly sure it never sold.Asking price was 5k canadian and the interior was rough, exterior not bad.

I rode in a diesel limo when I was in Israel in 1980 -- pretty sure it was a 240D. They were commonly in use as taxis over there at the time.

The pic in post 8 is what I was describing, 4 dr front / 2 dr rear. Chrysler did this with the K car in the 80's. Since MB has access to original dies, they can oversize some parts / splice or even make special dies.
