mE rcedessource - very knowledable but be careful with purchases

This guys honestly knowledgeable with diesels and knows these cars but I'm just saying, be careful on his website and what he is selling.

The read up on his rank damper adjustment is a damned joke, if your car is running rough, it's not the rack damper people... And he's saying the trucktek lower oil cooler line was specifically made in Germany. Right. You can get this part for $39 on pelican dude.

I don't know. I know the guy's quite knowledgeable and offers VERY good pointers and advice in his videos, but I think the differences between his opinion and the engineers at Mercedes Germany differs HUGELY heh.

He's selling massively overpriced parts that you can make yourself. For example the valve adjustment wrench. Really? Really? These are items you can make those yourself for $20 or you can buy the GERMANY made ones from the dealer for $150 (I just checked last week). Just a FYI that's all.

He's a salesman. I bought a set of Monarch injector nozzles from him because I couldn't find them anywhere else at the time.

Kent's an American hero

Guys, gimme a break. He posts videos on YouTube telling you how to repair your cars. The videos are free. You can see he runs a shop. If he sells parts and makes some money, that's why he's in business.

I didn't mean I haven't benefited from his videos but just about everything he sells has a video for purchase which gives complete details on how to install the produce. The video aren't free. I understand that and have no real complaints for I love capitalism.

I think he sold injector nozzles for years without mentioning that they need to be pop tested and shimmed to be installed correctly.

I won't speculate as to what he was thinking when he fail to talk about balancing them but I'd say he never ignored balancing when he installed a set in a customer's car.

Are you 100% sure about that? Because I am 100% sure that I have smoothed out a number of rough-idling engines by making said adjustment.

That's because he was the sole US distributor. Don't know if that has changed.

I spent most of an afternoon around Kent maybe 15 yrs ago met his lovely family his daughter was about to be married I think the next day but he still made time for me. visited his house where he showed me his collection of mercedes then went to his shop. The young man behind the counter said most income was from Internet sales he didn't really wrench to much any more. Since then his videos took off so he gets reverse Google ad money for anyone watching them in addition to sales. He's a sucessful marketer and very knowledgeable about most mercedes gas or diesel.

He sells a PDF on his products page that demonstrates pop testing. He sells pop testers. He sells shims. I'm not sure what else you could want.

I've bought a couple of his kits. They are expensive for what they are, but having everything in one box with illustrated instructions and a lemon drop is sometimes worth the price.

Yeah, but even though Monarch makes injector nozzles for my 1995 E300 606 he does not sell em, and will not even order em.

bummer..

What would you sell these home made wrenches for? ( I've never bought from this guy so I'm not taking a side either way. )

From what I have seen on this videos I have watched is they are really little more than ads telling you about his kits he sells and other videos you can buy that give you the real info you need, or rather, a person who does not already know to perform a job how to do it. His videos do not often get much into specifics. Maybe I am wrong but that has been my observation.

Yeah, how dare he charge a fee for what he knows! Lot of gall, working hard to gain knowledge and put together kits and videos and detailed instructions, and not just giving the knowledge away!

A bunch of wrong answers for free is what forums are for... I don't mind paying for something I know is correct when it comes to a complex job. It's pretty hard to screw up if you follow his videos and written instructions. If you want to accuse the man of making money I guess we're all guilty.

But, even if I kept my wallet stapled shut I still enjoy his Saturday shop videos and even his channel all about RC planes. I bet he would be a neat guy to hang out with. He's hardly the huckster televangelist some make him out to be.

I just have to jump in on this one. Many of us take pride in keeping cool old cars on the road with little expense. But with a ton of sweat equity. Sometimes that turns into a frugality that comes back to bite. I have purchased kits, parts, and tools from Kent. Yes, he makes a fair profit. The really good videos are the ones you buy with parts and tools as a package. For an amateur mechanic these are not expensive, but rather, a bargain. Doing the job right the first time makes it worth it.
