I always prefilled my diesel fuel filters with some diesel purge and then pump primed (with a new style pump). No sense cracking the injector lines.

You are thinking of ether. I have used wd 40 many times with no ill results.

If the system has or had any fuel leaks in the past with a failed attempt of starting this could have been the reason for a long slumber .The one I had just cked on had this issue at the thumb pump and other areas we cked on.Its best to establish a fueling problem ,it is so common with any starting issue. That with glow plugs on the same level field ,common.Another look is at the tank ,the hose coming off is often rotten with age ,if moisture is present youve got a leak.Theirs enough dirt and grim back their it will be very evident with the naked eye. This once you get it back on tank fed.I wear eye protection with this service ,old diesel fuel in your eye is no laughing matter .

I just bought a 83 240d has anyone heard of a short that will make the bat. light come on when the car is cut off. If the battery is left hooked up it will kill the bat. Other than then that it runs fine I drove it about 300 mi.

Thanks

I heard the problem is easy to fix when you start your own thread on the forum. Forum etiquette.

if your going to try to keep cranking it with the starter:
make sure you have good cable connections (nothing getting warm)
use a charger to fully charge the battery
and use a charger to boost the voltage for faster cranking

let the starter cool down for a few minutes after "so-many" seconds of cranking (before it gets hot)

keep the battery charged up
fast cranking does wonders for air bubbles in the fuel line and getting the compression you need

Thanks for all the replies everyone.

I have put this project on the back-burner for a little.

I wrecked my e63 (which was my reliable daily driver) so i need to focus on getting it road worthy before i try to revive this thing.

Also being forced now to make my '83 300d my daily driver, as it is currently the only drive-able car i have

Will report back when i get the 240d running
