As for any W123 300 Diesel, I am thinking the max right now for "real" value is around $10 to $12K. I say that since that was the absolute max Hagerty would insure my car for and I spoke to the rep for a while and he indicated a Pebble Beach Concours quality restoration W123 Diesel would cap out at around $10 to $12K. Now, that doesn't mean someone paid $60K for a particular car or not. Hop onto CL and you will see all sorts of "valuations" for W123s. Most of them are in fantasy land but that doesn't mean someone did not pay $20K or $40K or even $60K for a particular W123 diesel.

I would like to see a real ground up restoration, however. I've seen good paint jobs and good interiors, but never a restoration were the car is stripped down to the shell where every fastener, every piece of rubber, every piece of fabric, every piece of glass, and whatelse could remain removed and the car made like new or even better.

There’s a group out there called W123 world. Looks like they’re doing complete restoration work. Not much of a website but lots of pictures on the Facebook.
