I just did some troubleshooting on my vacuum system and discoverd that the fuel-flap lock leaks vacuum badly. I just bypassed it for now, but am wondering if these are repairable. I can't see anything wrong by just looking at it.

This is for an 85 300CD. Is the device the same as for all 123s?

They have rubber diapharm for door vaccum elements used in ACC. Give them a call may be they have some suggestion for you. Also as a final shot before replacing the whole unit, see if the leak is very small can can be pinpointed on your diaphram, then you can try using a similar rubber patch and use rubber glue to patch the whole up. I read somewhere it worked on a guys car for 5 years or so.

I used a balloon to slide over a door diaphram once. It worked for several years. Sometimes you have to get creative to avoid spending big bucks.

The new vacuum units can't be rebuilt as they're sealed. However, if you can get one of the older units and install it they can be rebuilt just by installing a new diaphram. You may have to drill new holes to install the older model. I collect the older units and when I have a complete set, I retrofit one of the family's newer 123s. The older units actually move the door locks up or down faster as well. If you check prices, you'll see the five dollar diaphrams are much cheaper than the new sealed units.

That hole mechanism is only about $10 or $12. I replaced the one on my 240D in a few minutes in spite of the fact that it is difficult to reach.
