Transmission Oil Cooler Tubing Repair Pictures

This is one version of the Transmission Oil Cooler Tubing repair.

In the first picture apparently something came up from the Road and dented the Transmission Oil Cooler Line Clamp and displaced the Rubber Sleeve.

In the next pic you see the crack worn in the line as the result of what happened to the Clamp.

I used a tubing cutter and cut the tube in two pieces and slide a Hose over each end of the tubing and used double worm clamps on the Hose.

I had a link in the same spot that had been repaired by the previous owner and it was leaking. I did a similar repair but I slightly flared the end of the line to help prevent the hose from slipping off.

It depends on where the damage occurs. If it's at the rear clamp, or closer to the transmission, your better off replacing the line. The flexing, due to vibration, will likely crack the line at the transmission banjo fitting. Been there, done that.

When I find something to replace it I am going to replace the line clamp. That ought to deal with any vibration.
Perhaps I will make a clampe wide enough that it bridges and supports both sides of the tubing.

Also the length of the Hose I put on ought to also deal with vibration.

I did not say but the Hose is 3/8" powersteering return Hose.

Ive Been pulling these lines at the yards over the yrs just because how common its happened on the previous fleet of w123s ,the orig. piece had a rubber surround to prevent metal on metal contact of the clamp against the line , trannie or motor oil deterates this over time ,then with all the vibration of the motor it wears the line .The reason it happens and to prevent it a cut up tire tube should complete the serviced piece. If these clamps still are avail with the rubber over lay that is what I would do and buy a few extras.

I have seen the pictured clamps at the local hardware store. However, they are not as sturdy as the Mercedes clamp.
