Didn't know a 300sdl could spin tires during a U turn - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

So I made a U turn onto what seemed like ENDLESS incoming traffic, fearing I'd get stuck for eternity I gunned it WHILE I was turning and held it there, and it started sliding. They didn't chirp but where spinning while I was accelerating the entire time for what seemed like 3 to 5 seconds, didn't loose control or crash thank god! Uncomfortable experience overall because all things considered the car was really just on the verge of fishtailing, nothing cool about it whatsoever, now I know the limit of this thing.

No wonder there was always a small voice in my head that told me to gun it AFTER the turn is complete.

Alight guys go ahead and burn me at the stake...

I suspect a tire (left/inner?) was spinning, not both. Unless you have more than an open diff.

You are 100% correct, I was too broad with "tires".

ON a hard turn like that the rear sway picks up the inside tire and it will spin even under the meager power of one of our diesels.

i have layed a good 50' set of black lines from a dead stop before i even swapped my turbo or pump. so i wouldn't say these engines are that gutless it just takes some rpm to get into the meat of the torque band unlike most other diesels like a 6bt. also while the diff is open it will still light both in some situations or with enough effort.

The SDL ain't slow, but I don't care how good you have it tuned stock, it isn't laying down 50' of 11's.... It WILL break the tires loose in the right conditions, but 50' of burnout?

i never said i hadn't turned the pump up lol. just that i hadn't gotten around to swapping any hardware yet. its not hard to do just wet the tires slightly to help get them started then hold the brakes and stomp on it. im not saying they can lay rubber without brake torquing, but they still do nice burnouts. this is not my car but basically the same set up i am running https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvcAtNAwYjo

Well that's not really a proper burnout now is it (the one wheel wonder!)......I mean you can take a Geo Metro, wet the tires, and rev the nuts off it with a clutch dump and burn out to your heart's content.

ya maybe but a geo wouldn't keep the tries lit for long. as long as you modulate the brake pressure and throttle right it keeps going so i would consider that a successful burnout it just needs help getting started. the open diff makes it want to burn one tire especially if you turn but in a straight line it will light both. and just for fun https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xa4AHNfktEk

My Yota will break traction on wet pavement if I throttle it while turning, and I imagine I have a lot more rubber on the ground than most 617 powered MBZ's. It'll also spin both wheels on gravel from an idle roll by punching the throttle, THAT will produce a healthy cloud of smoke now that the ALDA has been removed. I've also spun a wheel taking off on gravel at just over idle, surprised my brother who was riding in the truck at the time.

R-3350, I owe you an apology. When you posted claiming 50 feet of twin black lines, in my mind I went "bull excrement." The video of keeping both tires spinning while at speed really surprised me.
