Is there a trick to this?

I have a stupid question. Is there a trick or what the hell am I doing wrong. I'm trying to get my backseat out. There are two red tabs on the bottom edge. Do I pull, push, or what to get the seat to move. I've tried every way except by pry bar. What am I not doing right? The seat does not budge a millimeter. Any help?

If it's anything like the w126 models you might want to ask someone to help you. If you spring the tabs and pull upward and outward on the front of the seat base it will slide forward and upward and out.

Nearly everything on these cars is impossible to do the first time.

Thanks. The seat is down tight.

Clemson88 is right. When I pulled the rear seat on my w124 for the first time, I had to get an extra pair of hands.

on a w140 they move sideways

IF its like a w123 you can try some wd40 at the tabs ,this might find its way to the holder ,the tab ,when pushed ,moves a lip out of the way to then let the seat up out of its holder , the metal is part of that tab .all one piece and is not easily moved with just your thumb as a depressor. Some surface rust over time develops at these areas just from humidity. You have luck sometimes getting one side out of its holder and then the other for full release. It needs aggressive jerks and pushes to work free.

The tab is pushed sideways, towards the door.

If we are talking about the W124 300D then the tab is pressed to the rear. The spring is quite strong so it will take some effort and the seat is pushing forward so it takes some to lift it up after the spring is fully depressed and held.
