Anyone want a free car in the San Francisco Area?

I'm buying this car this coming weekend for the motor, but I have no need of the rest of it. I'd hate for it to be scraped, but I don't have the opportunity for long term storage. If you want it, its yours. In addition to whats in the ad (minus a motor, obviously) what you'll get is a OM615 with bottom end issues. Gimme a call if you want it. 563.349.0503 Will be located in Redwood City, CA.

Manual trans and set-up, that would be worth something to somebody looking for a project....

1973 mercedes 220d white has a 4 speed trans and early manual Webasto sunroof. New rear weather strip, new shifter bushings, new fuel return lines, new fuel filter, new water pump, engine starts up after holding glow plugs 15seconds. Comes with many parts. Bill of sale only, runs and drives. Has a remanufactured benz om616 indicated on the driver side of engine block. Will drive onto your trailer, has good tires. Clutch and brakes work. Needs TLC. I have all 4 hub caps. Hate to sell. $1150 or best offer. Bring a trailer serious offers.

I'd love to have it, if it weren't so far away.

I'd hold it on my property for someone who wanted it if it weren't over 1000 miles away.

Is anyone aware of another forum that's more centric to the area, or something? Maybe a guy that parts them out in CA or OR? I'd just hate to send it to the scrap yard, but I have zero options for storage longer than about 3 weeks.

That's probably gonna happen if no one here want it. I was just hoping to give it away to someone in the community, and not have to deal with spammers.

That car is being sold by Alex, a forum member from Salinas. I have met him once to possibly purchase some parts from one of his vehicles. Seemed like a nice guy. Here is his ad from PP:
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/mercedes-cars-sale/390792-%241150-running-1973-mercedes-220d-white-sunroof-4-speed.html

While I would love some of the interior door panels and various bits, it is hard to tell from his photos about their condition. Like you, I don't have the ability to take the entire chassis.

Part of me is wondering if it is worth just taking the engine from Alex and leaving him the chassis. Maybe it would be win-win. Or maybe it would not work for either of you.

It's cool that he's a forum member, I didn't realize. My plans hadn't firmed up yet, but I was planning on giving him first crack at it.

Good news! The owner is going to pull the motor for me, and keep the rest of the car. No more free car offer folks.

I will take the 4-speed transmission as a fee for my consulting services.

Just kidding.

Glad it looks like it will work out.
