300SDL Radiator - Now It’s MY Turn To Buy One!
Just purchased an all aluminum radiator for my SDL. In a brilliant move changing out engine mounts a month ago I managed to break the upper neck. I was already planning on a replacement radiator because the overflow nipple was broken and repaired with a brass barb. Whoever did the work had done a relatively decent job, but I wasn’t going to trust it for too much longer. So I wouldn’t have the SDL taking up garage space I repaired the upper neck and double clamped it. It did not leak in the 3k miles I put on it after the repair. The brass barb started leaking though. I went ahead and bit the bullet. The new radiator will arrive on Thursday of this week. It’s a shame that the original style radiator is NLA, but I don’t anticipate having to replace this new radiator for a long time...as long as no outside culprit causes damage. Wish me luck!

Good luck! My roommate has a 1991 350SDL and the center of the radiator has a fairly large area of JB Weld or something over the core. It's holding, but I think I'd rather have an all-aluminum radiator than an aluminum one with plastic tanks. One day he may end up getting an all-aluminum radiator, though we may end up painting it black.

Last I heard there was some Chinese one available for cheap and Wizard Cooling in NY.

It’s here! It’s beautiful!!!

I was gonna say, you can have my upper radiator neck, but you already have another radiator.

That is exactly like the one I purchased for my SDL a couple years ago. It worked great for the years I had the car, finally sold it to a guy in Europe.

Boggles the mind that these aren't available for the W124 diesels.
About to have to buy another radiator and would love a aluminum one! |
Almost afraid to talk about this (knocking on wood) I have a brand new OEM radiator in box and have always felt as long as I have it.......will never need one.

Subtle differences, but enough to cause problems for installation without custom fabrication. |
