Pretty cool video on the diesel engine

announcer says it runs on 16 to 1 compression ratio. he also 'implies' that the M4 Sherman tank was a diesel.

ahh, the good ol days before GM ruined the reputation of diesel engines.

The vw 1.5 diesel of the late 70's was 20:1 compression Vw managed to make a decent engine off a gasser block but GM never could. Even the military 6.5 liter diesel has a terrible reputation. I never understood why GM couldn't even copy a good diesel engine design, as it would have really helped the american driver at the pump.

GM should not have been bailed out for going broke

Naturally aspirated OM603s had a 20:1 compression ratio. The turbo variants ran slightly higher. Old GM diesel videos are a pleasure to watch, even with their Post WW2 military tension flare lol

Don't forget to grease the screw and threads on the spring compressor.
