Is the "Alternative Fuels" section a waste of space now?
 

The most people I ever see viewing this section even at peak hours thru out the day is 5 viewers.

And it's almost literally only getting like 1 post a month, if that.

Is the Alternative Fuels section obsolete now???

What do u guys think? Does it make sense to delete it? Or is the info already on it useful?

Its not being used but I just dont know if a classic Mercedes forum could get away with not having a veggie oil section because it is such a big part of the history of the car, although not so much the present.

It contains very good information and would be best kept.

Certainly the veg oil hype train has died (and plenty of engines along with it), but I agree the forum does contain useful troubleshooting and repair information that should be retained. If nothing else, it may help a new owner to identify and remove an unwanted veg oil system, or repair a previous hack-job installation. I vote to keep the forum.

Could it not just be completed merged together with the "diesel discussion" section?

Newbies, avg Joe's, and OG members alike can and would get more information if they were to post about alt Fuels in the diesel discussion section anyways.

Its dormant now due to low fuel prices at the pump plus a booming economy. When that changes we'll need it again.

Plus, at some point you covered virtually everything you would need. Of course there's novel issues here and there, nuances, or updates / breakthroughs. Burning grease should be heated and slightly blended; two-tank sytems are superior in many ways; the chemistry of burning grease leaves behind junk; works best for long trips; and, its an educated guess / risk and a trade-off. No free lunches out there.

It's worth the gamble if you aren't in your car very much $,mainly do long trips,filter it well, and can source it cheap/free..

As is my case I have a $600 190d that runs fine on it, I blend 80/20 and haven't had any issues knock on wood. Have saved ~$3000 on d2 so far.

I enjoy reading about guys who drive cross-country scavenging fuel from various sources, kind of like a Road Warriers movie. One guy even hauls a small trailer for processing. Probably won't risk my cars, and in CA we can buy refined bio-diesel (Propel's HPR) which adds no risk.

A stable repository of information is a good idea. Frybrid's gone and the greasecar forum is too. I think biodiesel.infopop.cc is what's left. There's a few people here, that I recognize from other places.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I do not see that you are an administrator or even a moderator on this forum, or that you pay for the hosting of this forum.

If the above is true, then you have no standing on this issue and it is none of your business.

It's history and for that reason alone it should be preserved. Imo, the greatest value of that section is that it tells readers how and why not to mess with grease unless they considered classic diesel engines disposable.

Yes I agree and I agree with what everyone is saying as well. I'm just playing the devil's advocate here so intrigue thought.


Originally I was trying to think of a way to like archive the section some how. Some how where all the info would still be there and available but removed from the main list of forums.

Again this is strictly something to think/talk about, not an official vote nor am I trying to push towards deleting the section
