In my opinion you have to start somewhere. I would want to see what the overall compression profile looks like first.
There are at least several possibilities. At this time you have no certainty of what is wrong. |

im just trying to weigh my options. I do not particularly need this engine. My plans are to build an om606 with the om603 pump. So basically I just need the injection pump and since i bought it, I have discovered its a #22 head. My though is strip it down, remove the head, and have it pressure tested. If it checks out good then sell the head and anything else I can off of it. Then I am left with a core injection pump that I can send out to be built into a superpump.
Thats the only reason I feel its a waste of time and effort to try to get this running especially considering it seems as if it has a serious problem. (stuck rings, dead cylinder) |

If you want to try and salvage it, you could try a piston soak for a few days, turn over and soak again. You could use Seafoam or even Wd-40 - just pour a tablespoon or two right into the cylinder through the injector hole (ideally on a hot engine). My 603 was getting same thing w/ stuck rings and also black oily junk collecting on intake valves from the now disabled egr.
