gas tank/trunk/back seat
 

well, stupid me- i poked a hole in the gas tank without knowing in the trunk area while installing an amplifier and then went for a fill up (DUMB ME)-



ive already fixed the leak and hosed out the trunk area.

one question, is the interior compartment sealed off from the gas tank ? i know the trunk is going to smell of diesel fuel for a while, but i dont want the interior to stink.

also, is there anything else I can do besides washing out the trunk to make the smell go away ??

I'm pretty sure there is no "diesel fuel tight" seal between the back seat. Even if there is, I can't imagine that you can keep the odor out of the passenger compartment. I had a small leak in the trunk. I used Simple Green to clean it out, and I use Fabreeze regularly. I would suggest pulling the rear seat and the back panel between the trunk and the fuel tank and getting all of the fuel you can cleaned up with Simple Green and then hit it with Fabreeze and leave it open for a day. Then follow up with Fabreeze.

I think JCD has it right. I've had the rear seatback off a couple of times in my coupe and don't see how you'd keep the smell out.

Take the seatback out (remove seatbottom and look for small bolts before removing seatback by lifting up and out.....remove medicine kit first to avoid damaging it) and clean everything real good with simple green and/or other good cleaners. I'm not sure about using something like Gunk, but that might work too. Leave the seat out for awhile to air it out.

Fortunately, the smell of diesel fuel is nectar to most of us. "She who must be obeyed" has made a rule that no clothes with diesel on them can come into the house. A small problem for me.

Yeah, the interior is more sealed off than the trunk, but not much, the smell will mainly come through the shelf
