Anyone have a micro SD card fail?

I bought a Samsung 32 GB micro SD around 2-3 years ago at Bestbuy for around $25 to be exclusively used in my Galaxy smartphone. Last week, I saw on the phone screen a message that says the SD card is being unmounted. I then looked at my photos and sure enough they are no longer there. I rebooted the phone a few times, didn't help. Took the card out and tried it on my other phone and computer, both unrecognized.

Has anyone here have such failures?

When I had some warranty problems prior on a Samsung smartphone about 5 years ago so I am registered with them. I called them up and they recognized me by my phone #. I told them my story and they sent me a list of questions to fill out and said they will likely replace the SD card. Samsung says these cards do fail sometimes for no explainable reasons. I'll see if they'll send me a new SD.

I have a friend's 300SD failed on me but not a micro SD. I thought this is DD forum. Am I missing something?😵

Tried it, didn't help. Also tried different adapters in the laptop.

I've definitely had them fail. Any solid state storage has a limited number of writes, so there's that. But also they can fail due to the mysteries of electronics or static electricity.

If you really wanted to get the data off, it's possible to run Spinrite on solid state drives, but the $90 for it pales in comparison to $10 for a new SD card.

I had one fail in my Reconyx gamecam. It seemed fine when I set it up, came back a few days later and it was unrecognized. Wouldn’t work in other devices, either.

I haven't got anything that takes a MicroSD card, but I've had standard SD cards fail, USB flash sticks fail, and a laptop SSD fail. Anything can and will fail at some point, it only has a finite life. Your best defense is a backup of anything important. Redundant backups if it's REALLY important.

All storage fails. My Ubuntu system reads more stuff than the win 10 OS on the same machine. Computer geek friend says to keep your data in at least 3 places.

Yup. I've had all sorts of hard drive fails including SD cards.

There are folks out there who will recover what's on it if you haven't backed it up for money. I had to do that recently when one of my drives died.

I don't believe I am responding to computer storage problems in DD. May be this DD forum is too quiet in these days. The best method is to store anything important in the cloud. Let the vendor handled the redundancy problem. Problem solved. The cloud location can be anywhere, who cares.

I have three cloud storage servers in my house...

All my phones and laptops are tied to all of them... my kids and project pics all need to be preserved.

SD memory cards definitely will fail. Many modern DSLR cameras like my Nikon D750 have dual SD cards for precisely this reason. You can set it so that each photo taken gets written to both SD cards in parallel. That way, if a card fails, you still have all your photos on the other card.

neat solution but not exactly cloud-ish as it is in your house ...

anyone can benefit from google drive for example, you get 15Gb per account
it is easy it is free and simple enough ... if you need more space, fire another G account up and that is it....

accessible from any location on planet...
