Vacuum pump diaphram installation

I've tried to search for this detail with regard to vacuum pump diaphram installation but to no avail ('79 300D).

The diaphram kits come with a small o-ring, but this is not mentioned in the FSM. I've done the diaphram replacement twice in the past but always end up guessing which 'end' the o-ring goes on (last time I put it on 'first', before the large flat metal disk.

I thought this time I'd check with you all before I start.
