I don't know much about engines past 1985 and I can't seem to keep track of what I read about the newer vehicles and engines. So I can only be of limited help.

In case someone else encounters this problem a long time ago someone posted a prechamber puller for the later model heads that they made. I could not find the thread but it was somewhat like the drawing I made.

After much trololololos trying to remove the prechambers I decided I can skip that step since the head is perfectly flat. The problem is the prechambers are still stuffed full of the WVO crud and they need to be cleaned out. I used some permatex to to seal up the holes at the bottom of the prechambers, reinstalled the glow plugs and filled each prechamber with acetone. This still works like magic for dissolving WVO. I was finally able to remove the injector shields. After all the WVO is loosened up the head is going in the washer for a final clean up before re assembly. Oh, I still have to lap the valves. The exhaust valves are a bit pitted.

I hope you never broke the seal on the one you worked on?

Doubtful. It didn't budge. If it did, easy enough to push it back in once the head is on the engine.

What's wrong with this picture?

I was further disassbling the head before cleaning and lapping the valves when I discovered more quality workmanship from the previous owner of this head.

OK.. but the FSM says not to use anything like wires or small drills to clean out those radial holes.... assuming your engine is like the 617.... so lots of liquids like you have been using and air pressure to be sure they are clean...

Speshul! Clearly they didn't bother determining intake and exhaust...

I'd be tempted to take it outside and fire up the pressure washer. Wear eye protection!
