why the change in blower resistor packs?
 

i have the old style of blower resistor in the air intake. this approach makes sense since if the blower is running then the coils are ventilated. i guess around 1980 MB switched to using the perforated box under the hood. it's kind of ventilated there. does anyone know what prompted the change?
