Is my 1977 240d nailing
I recorded a video for everyone to hear
https://youtu.be/N6TOJgl4p_k |
It sounds lopy @ idle but O.K. once you're up to speed .
The potatocam quality doesn't help anybody troubleshoot anything. Based on the (poor) quality of the video, it sounds more like an exhaust leak than nailing.
The audio sux too but it clearly has a poor idle .
Yup, poor idle no nailing I heard. Nailing sounds like someone took a hot cast iron skillet and keeps on throwing individual popcorn kernels in it and popping them.

My vote would be on an exhaust leak, perhaps at the manifold gasket or crack in manifold, but it's hard to tell in the video. It gets smooth but loud when you increase rpm's...

It may well just be he's deleted the muffler or resonator, I did so (resonator) on my beloved 300CD because it was too quiet .
Stock exhaust. I'm missing some sound insolation it's got some rust holes.
Sounds like the window were open too ~ lots of wind noise .
