Compatible brake hardware for front Bendix calipers W126

The reman caliper pins fell out on the front left wheel, don't know how long they've been like this because I just decided to check them after 10,000 miles.

Also I can not for the life of my find brake hardware for front Bendix calipers.
Are the ATE pins simply longer and could those be used? Also what compatible vehicles use the same hardware if anyone by chance knows? Couldn't I just go to the junkyard?

Don't forget to grease the screw and threads on the spring compressor.

It looks like you may be able to get an aftermarket hardware kit. I found some for ATE calipers searching the internet. I don't know if they are interchangeable.
Some research will be required to find a suitable replacement.
A junkyard may be your best option.

Wow, I have the completely wrong brake hardware on my front calipers. Thanks tangofox!

Are you needing front or rear hardware? The part number above is for the REAR brakes. The front Bendix hardware looks similar to the ATE, but has a different spring clip and different pins. They are NOT interchangeable.

My car has a Bendix on the left (probably original) and ATE on the right (probably reman). My brake pads came with ATE hardware, but not Bendix. I got lucky and my hardware was still clean and reusable.

Multiple sources say it fits the front calipers on the subject vehicle. I cannot confirm the accuracy of the sources.

Did you forget to put a cotter key in the retaining pin after you reinstalled the caliper? Do not see how it could come out if you did.

The ATE caliper pin does not have a hole for a cotter key. The pin just presses in and holds.

A cotter pin never came with the remans.

The hardware shown is exactly the same as that for the rear brakes on the SDL.

The front Bendix brake has pins very similar to the ATE, but shorter and fatter. They use a similar split "ball" spring on the end of the pin, but again a different size from the ATE. The spring clip that keeps it together is also a different size and shape. Absolutely nothing in common with what's shown in that kit.

Unless there is a different front Bendix part out there, that is the rear brake hardware only.

The Bendix caliper is the same as the ATE, but has different dimensions so that the ATE hardware won't work. Finding the Bendix hardware is not an easy task.

Not sure why there was no cotter key but no worry. You can just put in a small generic cotter key or you can put in a bent nail. In any event if it is a Bendix, you must put in something to keep the retaining pin secure. Not that I have ever seen one back itself out but I guess it could. The MB engineers put it there for a reason. (The original is not really a cotter key; it is shaped like a Bobby pin with three bump stops. But anything will work.)

There wasn't a cotter pin because there wasn't a cotter pin. The retaining pins used a spring loaded "nub" to keep the pin in place, just like the ATE calipers do, it's just a different dimension so the ATE parts won't work.

Pelican shows listings for the Bendix calipers, but has them listed as "rear". Not sure if the pins and anti-rattle clip are the same as the fronts or not. They sure look like it.

Diseasel - I have never seen a set of Bendix that use the ATE type nub to hold in the pins. Do they come that way? Every one I have seen has a cotter key.

I have not replaced the back pads on my SD for a while but I seem to remember that the anti-rattle springs are exactly the same for front and back. I have no idea why it would be necessary to buy new ones; they never wear out.

Yeah, Bendix retaining spring on the left, Ate on the right.

IIRC, I had a similar issue and found the AC Delco pins to fit.

Strange. The front pins/springs are twice the price of the back but they look the same to me. Must not be.
