722.315 (1985 300d)swapped for a 722.303 trans (1985 300sd)
If you wanted to put a 722.303 trans (85 300sd ) into an 85 300d which had the 722.315 trans your issue would be here.W126 transmission in a W123 - Page 2 - Mercedes-Benz Forum
Didnt see the detail on how to modify the 722.303 trans for allowing the oil port, anyone ever modify for the oil tube ,whats needed. This oils the speedo gear that is on the tailswapped 722.315 matted to the 722.303 transplant. |

Post 10 on the linked thread does make mention that the movement of transmission fluid already in the trannie maybe suffiecient for the speedo gear to maintain itself without failing without the tube .Only time would tell in this case.

One thing to note that was not noted on the benzworld link, is that there later model year .303's had a good chance of having the same shape main case tail housing as the .315. So the tail section/cover would be a direct bolt on without having a oil jet hole to cover up. I haven't had the opportunity to open a later .303 up to see if an oil jet is there, but I think there is a chance it is there.

Ok ,got the 722.303 trannie pulled yesterday , all day ordeal hate to say, order the gasket then onto install and hope for the best.It was a rather clean car, opened up the pan and was very happy to see very little wrong with the fluid .Only reason I stayed thru the fight to pull this particular trans was all the right things were showing a very low mileage unit ,80k by the odo, cars condition was very clean showing a maintenienced minded owner.Dirty ,dirty job.Ill have concrete for the rest of the way.
