HELP Distributor plug / cap oil leak around collar OM616 240D
I have an oil leak around what ive discovered (not on here) to be the distributor plug, as the gas block was used in these 240d. theres a 19mm plug but my leak is around the collar the bolt threads into. its right on top of the block almost behind PS pump......Have no clue how to PROPERLY remove and re seal.....any help would be appreciated, I CANNOT for the life of me find a damn thing about it on this forum here.

You probably haven't found any info because the diesel block is unique to the diesel. It is NOT the gas engine block. Post a picture of what you're talking about.

Ok will do, I just read two sources stating it was the same block, one was told from his mechanic, they claim its where the gasser distributor would go..... I don't know what it is, thats for sure.
https://ibb.co/g9KGs7 seems i don't know how to post a pic? haha |
|
also im not searching for info on the blocks being similar im just searching for info on well what this plug is called for starters, but proper removal and sealing. best info i found was stating its where the gasser would have a distributor, which also from the pictures seems to be accurate. so that at least helps me when referencing location.

found out my issue......its called the HELICAL GEAR SHAFT....and the o ring has gone out i believe 615 181 0026 is the part number.....also know as the Plane bearing shaft to oil pump.....in manual under 05-410
hopefully this helps others goodness it was a hard one for me to find. |
I have the same leak on my 240. Apparently there's a retaining nut (allen head) you must loosen before you can remove that bolt. Have you figured out which size O ring you'll need? Keep us posted, I'd love to fix this as well.
Edit: here's the link to the corresponding article in the FSM -https://www.startekinfo.com/StarTek/outside/12265/disc_2/program/Engine/615/05-410.pdf |
I had a 15mm hex head retaining bolt just behind the PS pump bracket.....in fact i did a little video of the whole thing. Thanks! Yeah i had just found that and did it all.
I'll post a link of the vid. I just used an o-ring i had on hand. |

heres a link to the vid. I went and bought an o-ring from o'reillys but it was too thick diameter about 3-3.5 maybe so I used one I had that was about 32mm diameter 3mm thick and it streched some to make it work nice... Propper O-ring though a 35mm total outer diameter and 2 maybe 2.5mm thickness? |
Awesome. Thanks for posting that dude -bookmarked for a later date = )

No Problem!, its a pretty quick and easy job, I'd suggest you use thin walled sockets if you can/if your PS mount is the same as mine, that helped with the space I had to get on the retaining bolt.

I did completely remove it, not sure you NEED to. once mine broke lose I used my fingers as the socket was rubbing the PS mount. also to get it out the second time (o-ring to big) I loosened the cap enough to get a flat head under and lightly pry the part up and out with a flat head. as the magnet wasn't quite cutting it with the newer o ring.

Thanks for the update! Another project on the list...

now i just need to find a good vacuum diagram for this Manual 240d
