I can't even stomach to open it. Another classic w123 scrapped, yet alone a coupe. I really hate people.

Likely to figure out a cheap shipper and start bringing in rust free chassis around my town and holding onto them.

Unhappy Wasted Cars

It's a pisser sure enough but the reality is : few still want these most excellent cars, why they get scrapped for a pittance after the DPO gives up trying to sell it for too much $ .

They can sell, though the prices asked are often absurd. Currently, there are some 1980's 300D's for ~$14K on ebay. My guess is that most that hit the junkyard are due to the owner dying (or divorcing) and the ones who inherit the car are too lazy to bother listing. About 10 yrs ago, I saw a 1950's Dodge car at PickNPull. Under the hood, it had a 1990's Magnum V-8 w/ computer control, so someone put much love into it, and surely wouldn't have junked it, but death or disability can eliminate one's influence.

Another possible angle is that CA offers an incentive to turn in older cars. My DMV statement says they'll pay $1000 to surrender my 1996 minivan if it fails emissions check (or $1500 if low-income). Just take to PickNPull. Blue Book price is ~$500. I haven't seen that applies to my old diesels yet.

It doess't matter if they are diesel or gas, just so long as they meet all the program requirements.
That is the fate that befell "Rena 2.0'.

You should do that, and I have the first batch ready to go from here in CA (home of rust free cars).

I'm in Phoenix, Az. to - day and the Pull & Save North (27th just South of the I10 fwy) has a incredibly clean and shiny white 1979 300CD that was a police impound ~ it's gutted like a Christmas goose yet the vacuum tank still had vacuum in it when I removed it....

Shiny paint and looked to have had nice interior too, the dash, is gone along with almost everything but the body panels .

No one wants these cars no matter what you think .

Although pick-n-pull locations collect the cars and issue checks, buyback cars go straight to the crusher. They don’t go the yard.

Never saw that one in person but yeah sometimes folks let the yard have it if it's got a minor scrape knowing the body shop quotes tons to fix.
Lately Mbz diesels have been few to find at the local yard.

There was a nice looking 83 CD that was on CL for a long time with a bad transmission. I was interested but never had the time to go look at it. If finally disappeared and recently reappeared. This time with the hood off and no engine. Some guy bought it for the engine to put in a jeep or something. What a dummy. The rest of the car is supposedly intact but I would imagine the dummy probably did a lot of cutting and hacking to get the engine out. If he didn;t might be worth dropping a power train into it.

Post 1979 300CD In Pik-Save Phoenix

here's the gutted carcass I found Sunday :

1984 300 CD coupe pik n pull Nor Cal-300cd.phonix.4.15.18.jpg

Amazingly the vacuum resivoir still held vacuum so I grabbed the usually loose and leaky vacuum pipe grommet....

They had three W123's in there, one was recently put out and so mostly complete .

Nate -I see you're in the LA area? Where are these cars you're finding?
I'd love to visit a JY and actually find something waiting for me.

Hey Rich, we have talked before. I know you got a nice collection. I'd like to save up some money and figure something out. I have the storage now no problem.
