Engine cover removal on 2011 E350 Blutec V-6 engine

Can someone tell me how to remove the engine cover on a V-6 Diesel engine in a 2011 E350 Blutec car? There are no screws or latches that I can see on the cover. On my 2005 E320 CDI there were nine star screws to remove and then the cover lifted off. Anybody know how to remove that cover?

It just lifts straight up. There are 4 rubber cups on the back side of the cover that engage 4 ball studs (that look like a miniature golf ball on a tee) on top of the engine.

The newer OM642s (I think this started with the W212/W166) have a fresh air cooling duct at the front center, simply slide this off first, where the flex hose meets the cover. The W211 and W164s don't have this duct.

Yes, and after many times of removing the cover, it will just sit there, and practically fall off. The sockets (cups) wear out, and offer no resistance when lifting the cover.

Thanks guys. I don't want to pay the dealer outrageous money to change the filters.

In theory, you'll need to re-adapt new filters with DAS/Xentry. If you're filters are super contaminated, you may get a MIL.

Check your turbo inlet seal while you have the air filter boxes out. 642 094 04 80

Those "sockets" that hold the decorative cover down are available online/ebay for next to nothing--I've changed them several times. Also, a bit of grease on the little mount balls and sockets makes removal and installation much easier!
